You KNOW You’ve Got Daughters When…
Published September 8th, 2008 in L.A. Toddler, L.A. Baby, Moving.Well, when you’re forced to paint both bedrooms Perpetually Pink and Potentially Purple…

Ain’t it pretty? This is L.A. Baby’s new bedroom in our house.

And this is the precocious 4 year old L.A. Toddler’s bedroom. Even though these rooms rooms are small, it took us all day Saturday to paint one and all day Sunday to do the other. It’s kind of hard to paint when the baby is screaming from the crib she doesn’t want to be in (or… she didn’t really like the color we chose for her) and the other is painting all the electrical outlets.
But, it’s much easier to paint BEFORE you’ve moved all your crap in. And we’ll be in our rented townhouse for another two months, so we’ve got time.
I must say this. It was rather difficult to paint those pink and purple walls… It was one of my first “Oh, Shit!” moments where it really sinks in that I’ll have my two beautiful daughters but won’t ever have any sons. Yes, I’m so seriously in love with my little girls that it truly doesn’t matter to me.
But… pink and purple? Oy. My hand was shaking it was so hard to do.

Hmm…oddly I feel the same way about blue and red and my boys…
The only girly room/thing in the house is my office. Everything else? All testosterone.
Ha! Cordy’s room is painted a similar shade of purple. And her room is the only one in the house that is painted. We moved in when I was 5 months pregnant, and her room was the only one that didn’t have anything in it at first. We should have painted before we moved in - as a result we keep postponing painting the other rooms!
Love that pink, though - it’s like cotton candy.
Even though I’ve got a girl and a boy, I’ve never had the full-on girly or all-boy experience. My daughter has absolutely never liked girly things and my boy’s never liked sports and regular guy stuff (except for video games galore). They’re pretty gender neutral, actually. This just isn’t how I imagined my kids would be!
My girl chose blue paint for her room and my boy chose yellow. And thank God for their neutral mindsets - No larger than life-sized football players or Disneyfied Jonas Brothers stare down at me from their walls. Phew.
Pink and purple… yikes! I totally feel for you painting with the little ones underfoot. Been there, done that and it totally sucks. It takes 4 times as long. I was so spoiled this summer because we hired painters for the first time in my life. Thanks for the stimulus check, G.W.!
My daughter’s room we painted white and then just added pink accents because I couldn’t stomach the whole room being pink. It’s a good thing because my son and daughter now share the room. I painted my son’s room blue when we first moved in and now that is my office — I wish I had the energy to change it because blue gets to me after a while.
It’s a nightmare, isn’t it? We’ve managed to get away with pretty netural colours so far but have been deluged with pink clothes ever since dudelette was born.
Why not do stripes? Then you’ll have the best of both worlds.
Amara’s new room is painted that type of pink. But she’ll have a pink castle on top of all that pink. Aren’t girls a joy?
Hey LA Dad & Mom,
Ah, the joy of new home ownership and 2 daughters! Hey, why does that sound familiar. I managed to keep the colors very bland and white in the girls rooms as they were growing up, and then…they discovered stickers and transfers! If I had to put money on it, the eldest daughter never had to deal with taking stickers off from her walls (Her Mom must have been stuck doing it) as now my Grandaughter has Winnie the Poo stickers all over, and her Mom put them up. The newest is, she has a big girl bunkbed now, and Dad gave her her wish of polk a dot walls! I would include a pic, but couldn’t get it to work! I will send in separate e-mail.
Anyway, wouldn’t exchange them for the world!!!
Miss you in LA but glad you are getting what you want there!
We’ve got the same pink in the bedroom. But we did vary a little from pink and purple…her bathroom is Tinkerbell green.
