Walkin’ the Line

Our little baby’s growing up. Fast.
L.A. Baby took her first successful steps out at grandpa’s house a few weekends ago. Her first step… well, two steps. She’s only about 9 and half months old. L.A. Toddler didn’t walk until she was almost a year.
But my lovely wife tells me that this is the case with the younger siblings. Apparently, she’s been watching her older sister walk around and wants to do the same thing. I guess if her sister were an Olympic track star, then L.A. Baby would be doing warm up sprints right about now…
Just last night she took about 4 complete steps. It’s amazing how quickly she’s catching on to everything. I hate to use that wornout old cliche, but… she is growing up fast. Way too fast.
L.A. Mommy is a bit sad about the whole thing, of course. Her little baby doesn’t want to cuddle at night after slurping up that last bit of boob juice. She immediately pushes away from mom and cries out - “Take me to bed or lose me forever!”
I told you… she’s growing up fast.
This naturally means that L.A. Mommy starts giving me the pouty face. You know the one. That face that says, “My baby is getting too old to be held. I want another one…”
I hate that look.
The good news is that our newest little walker finally has a new house to live in. Our very own house. We closed on Tuesday. I’ve been organizing the garage and taking all my tools over. I even built a workbench for all my various projects. We’ve got a lot to do - painting, cleaning, new carpet, etc. There’s so much that sometimes I just stand there… not knowing where to go next. It’s almost paralyzing.
Which means my upcoming three-day weekend is pretty much shot to hell.

Congrats on closing on the house and L.A. Baby’s first steps! Sounds like it’s been a great week for you!
(And yeah, I have the same feeling L.A. Mommy is having, too. My baby is growing up, and I’m already missing those tiny baby moments.)
I’m confused. The juxtaposition of LA Mommy’s pouty face and the busy three day weekend–that’s what you’ll be doing????
I’m pretty sure second children just want to get straight into walking. Dudelette has reaching 9 months and pulled herself upright for the first time today. Already, she’ll only travel round the house via walking whilst hanging onto fingers. Her balance sounds a little behind LA Baby, though! Nine and a half months for solo steps is fast!
There’s an upside to the pouty face, mind. Though it’s kind of short-term thinking, I know…
it is sad and true. our littlest one will be one in two weeks and walks pretty well, her sis didn’t until about 14 months. i think it’s because she sees what fun her older sis has by being mobile.
avery (#2) also one day just started saying mommy. prob because she hears older sis say it like 1000 times and hour.
Congrats on the new home.
My condolences on the loss of every free weekend for the foreseeable future.
Oh, and just hope she doesn’t pick up dating and other such things early as well. Yikes.
I cannot believe how big she is. Sounds like things are coming along swimmingly.
