Well, I Done Got Old
Published December 10th, 2007 in L.A. Mommy, It's Really Just All About Me..., L.A. Blogger Party, L.A. Baby.Today is my birthday. And I’m old now. I’m not in that 20-29 or 30 - 39 age category anymore. I’ve leaped quietly into the 40 - 49 grouping. That is a fucking tough pill to swallow. But I’ll handle it with the dignity and decorum of a man of my advanced age — I’ll get stinkin’ drunk on the Johnny Walker Black that Kevin and Will brought to my birthday party on Saturday…
Speaking of parties, I had a blast! I had L.A. Mommy and L.A. Baby there with me and a ton of friends to celebrate my 40th.

I had friends I’ve know since college there, new blogger friends, folks from my short film group, and even some co-workers.

All week, it was supposed to rain but the weather was chilly but dry. It didn’t start sprinkling until about 1am. By then, they were all too drunk to care!

Only a few were brave enough to dangle a few toes in the hot tub:

We even had quite a few kids running around. They got a chance to play in the treehouse, eat some cookies, sip a few cocktails…

How many people get to go to a party in the Hollywood Hills and hang out in a tree house? Well, not me apparently… I used to be able to fit up there when I was younger. Now? Not so much:

I snapped this shot when my co-worker’s kid launched himself between my legs while I was taking pictures of people in the kitchen:

People brought me gifts — even though they didn’t need to — and that was very nice. Thank you all!

Some even drove huge distances to make it to the party, from as far away as Sacramento and Santa Barbara. Very cool.

All in all, it was a great time. I got to laugh a lot and be distracted from the fact that my life is nearly over…

No where near over, my friend. Happy Birthday - from one 40-year-old to another.
I knew a guy over 40 once. Congratulations on reaching your milestone.
Happy birthday, and thanks for hosting!
Wish I could have been there! Happy Birthday my friend!! Enjoy those two twenties…..they’ll be the best year of your life if you embrace them.
Looks like I missed ANOTHER great LA Daddy party!
Happy belated birthday — the 40’s are great!
Happy Birthday! Welcome to the rest of your life, which looks like it’s going to be great.
Happy Birthday! We had a great time at the party; sorry that we left just as it was getting good. LA Baby is such a cutie!
You know what “they” say? “40 is the new 30.” Does that help?
We had a great time at your party.
Happy Birthday!
Oh, and come visit the 2007 Blogger Christmahanukwanzaakah Online Holiday Concert. It’s not too late to contribute either, Neil is rebroadcasting it on Christmas.
Happy Birthday! Looks like it was fun!
Wow, I’m starting to have old friends now. As a kid, I thought 30 was old. Now that I’ve passed the 30 mark, I’ve needed to revise that thought. 40 isn’t looking old anymore, either.
Looks like a great party. I wish we weren’t in Ohio - I would have braved the hot tub, especially after a few drinks.
And the treehouse looks awesome!
And I hit submit too fast - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Happy birthday, old man! Here’s to another year filled with love and happiness!
40s? What’s that?
I’m thirty-sixteen myself.
Looks like a fun party! Happy birthday!
Happy 4-0 LA Daddy. Looks like a great bash.
Old. I beat you to that title, mister. In runner’s parlance…we call this the “Masters” category. Sounds a lot better, no?
Now I’m really bummed I didn’t make it. You must have a party next year, for your 41st. You know, 41 is the new 40. Or is it the new 30. One of those. Either way, I promise to make the next one.
Happy birthday!
HAPPY LATE BIRFDAY, BISH!!!! DANG…
Hey, we had a great time Saturday night and felt lucky to be invited. Thanks, man.
And dude, remember…you’re just getting better.
That’s what I keep telling myself. And when I’m not listening to myself, well…yeah…Johnnie helps out.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
You don’t look a day over 38. Promise.
Happy birthday. I hope you have a great year and a better decade.
Geezer.
Happy Birthday
Happy Belated Birthday from another 40-something year old
Happy Birthday!! I don’t even know you, but I love that treehouse. And I love the thirty-sixteen comment. I’ll make people do the math the next time they ask my age.
Happy Belated Birthday!
Happy belated 40th. I plan on calling it thirty-ten when I get there.
Whoa, I rarely stop in. Heck you probabally don’t even know me, but I was looking at the pics and recognize another blogger there. Funny, what a small world.
Hi Neil from Citizen of the month.
I really haven’t been paying attention! Happy birthday - hopefully by now, you’re used to the advanced state of mind that automatically descends when you turn forty, like Neo getting the really great coat and sunglasses.
