A Slaughter Down at the Farmhouse
Published May 27th, 2007 in Kids Say....
You know the classic kid song, The Farmer in the Dell?
The farmer in the dell
The farmer in the dell
Hi-ho,The derry-o
The farmer in the dell
The farmer takes a wife
The farmer takes a wife
Hi-ho,The derry-o
The farmer takes a wife
My lovely, charming and oh-so-sweet daughter has her own take on the lyrics. When L.A. Toddler sings the song, she puts it like this:
The farmer takes a life
The farmer takes a life
Hi-ho,The derry-o
The farmer takes a life
Apparently, to her, the Farmer is one pissed off serial killer.

Holy crap, someone call Rob Zombie!
Good God, that’s scary.
Remember that movie where some demented hillbilly farmers plant people in the ground to make sausages out of them?
Get that one for your next family movie night!
And in the next verse “the farmer gets life.”
Or, maybe because this is an L.A. blog, “the farmer gets a life.”
Hmm, I wonder if she met my farming inlaws???
Hmmm….
Looks like she just put the ole’ Mother Goose spin on it. I never noticed until I was a father just how morbid many of those little rhymes can be. Here’s one of my favorites.
Solomon Grundy,
Born on a Monday,
Christened on Tuesday,
Married on Wednesday,
Took ill on Thursday,
Grew worse on Friday,
Died on Saturday,
Buried on Sunday.
That was the end of
Solomon Grundy.
Poor fella!
Oh that is SO funny!
Hey, farming is a tough game these days. Farmers are snapping all the time now.
I see you too are MASTER of the photoshop!
i guess “The farmer takes a life” is taking an animal’s life
